   Joan's Approach

The Mojotivity Way

Note:  throughout this website,
   underlined words
   are linked to the
Glossary.

Some of my clients had avoided getting help for their issues because they were afraid that counseling or coaching would turn them into everyone else.

Others had sought professional support, but the counselors or coaches they found seemed to be squeezing them into pre-designed boxes.  They didn't get how much my clients wanted their uniqueness to be valued ... or how much they wanted to solve their problems without being made to feel as if they were their problem.

But that's not me.  I won't discount your needs, your wants, or your unique qualities.  I won't be intimidated by your talent or intelligence or independence.   I deeply understand that you want to do your big thing in your own way.  (Check out  Lindzey's Story for an example of a client who had to go through several coaches and counselors before she found someone who saw her for her amazing self!)

I was expecting a more formulaic approach;  I actually thought I wanted
a more formulaic approach, because I thought that it was the formula that would do the job.

What I realized in the long run, was that having someone understand and accept
me and my mishegoss was at least as healing as any particular technique.

The WAY is a PATH ...
_________________________

I call the uniquely creative path that we are taking together The Mojotivity Way:

The Mojotivity Way
is based on the idea that
you already have what you need,
even though you don't yet know
how to uncover or harness
what you've got.

We begin with the understanding that there is a field of energy, inspiration and creativity which you can tap nto because you are absolutely alreay a part of it!  This source is your birthright ... and the mojoflow that happens when you connect with this field is your natural state.

The Mojotivity Way is about healing, releasing and transforming the causes of disconnection.  It's about reconnecting to your essence ... and about getting your mojo to flow.  Since our work together helps you to release blocks and reconnect to your best self, one of the key aspects of what we do is finding out what is getting in the way.

My role is to listen to you in a Focusing manner
-- deeply, compassionately, creatively and intuitively
--
using my best instincts to help you to reconnect with your life-forwarding movement, or mojotivity.

(See What's In Our Mojo Bag
for a longer description of
Focusing and body-based listening.)

It was our first session, and I was just expecting an intake. But, I felt so seen by you, and I am already starting to take steps toward being my whole self again.

 Jared B,
financial analyst,

Berkeley, CA

Intuitive, compassionate listening  ... listening for the areas of disconnect  ...  listening for where negative thoughts and old traumas are blocking you  ... listening for where your growth is impeded --  this is something you can, and will, learn to do for yourself, on your own.

        found
a LIFE SHERPA *
        who really gets them.

(* I hate the word coach,
so I'm using "sherpa" instead.
A Life Sherpa is a holistic,
intuitive guide
for bright and creative individuals -
explorers who are on an inner journey,
longing to either find their path,
or to get past the obstacles
that appear on the path
they've already found.)

  • You will feel deeply heard, because I listen with a third ear.

  • You can trust that I will be an ally of the most precious aspects of your self, and that I won't ride roughshod over your individuality.

  • I will empathize with your struggles - even when other people envy (perhaps secretly) your intelligence and ingenuity.

  • You will begin to move toward your big goals, because I won't just work with you to solve problems and blocks ...  but I will also support your dreams, your mission, and your deepest longings.

  • I understand that you are a one-of-a-kind individual, so I will make sure that our work together is personalized, and not cookie cuttered.

  • I know that you are both logical and intuitive, so I will use a variety of tested, gentle change techniques which appeal to both your analytical and your creative sides.

  • And, because I value your independence, I promise to teach you how to use these methods on your own - between sessions ... and for the rest of your life.

(So even if you are trekking in Nepal, assisting earthquake victims in Haiti, holed up in your loft painting pictures, stuck in an airport out-waiting a snowstorm, or just hunkering down, wanting to be alone - when problems arise you will have effective ways of handling them by yourself.)

Above all, Joan is uniquely discerning.

She picks up on things that other counselors miss, and she expresses ideas
in such an aphoristic, memorable way.

As a result of our work together, you will feel less blocked, more connected to your mojoflow less bound by limitations, and more wholly yourself.

Joan, I used to get so many boring newsletters

What I like about
